During the night of August 20, 2020 (corrected – not 19th as shown) the Dolan Fire burned through the nest site of Condor 167 “Kingpin” and 190 “Redwood Queen” who were raising “Iniko” a chick approximately four months old. Live-streaming video provided by explore.org captured the horrific night. Ventana Wildlife Society biologists visited the site on September 2, 2020 to check on Iniko and found him/her alive and well! Redwood Queen is alive and caring for Iniko but Kingpin remains missing. Both adult condors were released by Ventana Wildlife Society in the late 1990’s. The Big Sur flock of condors was setback by the Dolan Fire but will prevail!
